I placed an order on Domino's through Swiggy app for a Regular Cheese Burst Margherita Pizza, on 18th April 2022 in Nallagandla, Hyderabad. The charges for this pizza were of Rs 184, I applied coupon SWIGGY IT that gave me an additional Rs 73 discount.
The bill initially showed Rs 110 payment on the Swiggy app, after applying coupon discount but when I tried to pay via GPay, the restaurant added 'Restaurant Handling charges' worth Rs 61, and I ended up paying Rs 181.
I talked to customer chat service on Swiggy, and they said these are packing charges and they are essential for perfect packing conditions. I tried to reason with them that these charges are unfair and they should be refunded.
But they said that Swiggy is just a platform for ordering food, while such decisions are usually with the restaurant. It seems like they are making fool of customers by providing coupon discount and then appending almost same amount of money.
Also, the restaurant packing charges were not visible before the payment gateway was enabled. This is unfair and illegal trade practice on behalf of Dominos for online food delivery.
I would like to request a refund for the same for causing such a bad experience, and I see similar charges being levied on some of my previous Domino's orders as well. This is very worrisome and a way to loot the unsuspecting customers.
